Border shooting

February 28, 2013

The good folks at Lighthouse Construction asked me to shoot this enormous Tsawwassen mansion the other day. I brought Leo from Lionlight Photography with me because we had a lot of ground to cover in one day. For once the weather cooperated, as the sun came out just enough for us to get some great outside shots, but not enough to cause us any problems inside. The hardest part about this assignment was deciding what to shoot and where to position the camera. We had so many great angles and lots of open space for our lights and gear, so no excuses this time. Once again the Lighthouse gang impressed us with the quality of their work. Here are a few of the images from that day. Lighthouse ConstructionLighthouse ConstructionJohn Bentley Photographer

East Vancouver Renovation

February 24, 2013

This heritage house in East Vancouver was a particularly tricky shoot. Dark wood is one of the most difficult surfaces to capture. It is a light-sucking sponge, and what light doesn’t get absorbed by the wood is often bounced right back at the camera as glare. So when Dave at Barkovic Development Corp described this project to me over the phone, I made sure we booked an overcast day. At least I wouldn’t have to fight the sun, which would have made things even worse. Fortunately for me, Dave gave me complete license to shoot whatever I wanted, which in most cases was the incredible details that have been masterfully restored or replaced throughout the house, like the push button light switches.

Bulthaup Vancouver

February 12, 2013

Bulthaup is a German company with a reputation for manufacturing some of the highest quality kitchens in the world. I had the opportunity the other day to shoot this Bulthaup kitchen in a spacious West Vancouver home. I will be shooting more of these beautiful kitchens in the months to come.

Arbutus view property

February 7, 2013

A truly unique home in one of the most desirable neighbourhoods in Vancouver. This beautiful house designed by Stuart Howard Architects sits at the top of Mackenzie Heights with an unobstructed view of the city. The ribbed ceiling on the main floor eliminates the need for walls and columns so the view can be enjoyed from anywhere. The entire house can be run from your iPad. It’s always a pleasure to shoot homes of this calibre. See Jay McInnes for the full listing details.
