Harrison Hot Springs

February 26, 2011

I’m always up for an adventure from time to time, so when a client asked if I would shoot some aerial photographs of Harrison Hot Springs Resort, I jumped at the chance. The weather was kind of a good news – bad news situation: high winds blew all the clouds away, so the sun was beaming down on Harrison Lake. The bad news: did I mention the high winds?
At this time of year, Harrison only gets a few hours of direct sunlight first thing in the morning, so we spent the previous afternoon and evening wandering around this beautiful resort, shooting everything in sight: the Spa, restaurants, rooms, meeting facilities, and of course the world famous pools. Got up bright and early the next morning and headed to Chilliwack Airport where our pilot was warming up our ride, which turned out to be a Cessna 150 – a two seater, 1100 pound toy of an airplane. I didn’t know they made planes this small, that you could actually get into.
But a gig’s a gig, and off we went, straight into 30km an hour winds. Now I don’t normally have a fear of flying, but the fact that my pilot was young, pretty and female was the only thing that kept me from screaming like, well, a young, attractive female. We got tossed around pretty good, but managed to circle the resort a few times before heading back to the airport with a tail wind that got us pretty close to Mach 1.
