Kitchen Art

March 30, 2011

That’s the name of this Vancouver company that makes these fabulous custom kitchens. We spent a day staging and shooting several of their kitchen and bathroom cabinetry last week. It’s always a challenge to bring out the texture and patterns in dark wood, doubly so when there is a bright sun beaming in nearby windows. But we pulled it off, and got some terrific images for the client, and ourselves. Staging was done by Sylvie Wetherup of Ambient Design.

North Shore realtor Daryl Hoffman called me to shoot this unique home on the Seymour River in North Vancouver. It had a big, beautiful outdoor fireplace on the river side of the house. Not something you see every day. The tricky part of this shoot was to show the proximity of the home to the river itself. I finally found a suitable vantage point, and stitched a number of images into a panorama to show the big picture.

Is staging worth it?

March 27, 2011

The owner of this Burnaby home thinks so. She hired a staging company to rearrange things and add some accessories and touches, then brought me in to document the result. The home has been on the market for a week or so, and the realtor says it is getting a lot more attention than others in the neighbourhood. The owner feels that if the house sells faster, or at a premium, then it’s worth the small amount that she invested in staging and photography.

Design Time

March 16, 2011

The other day I ventured into the home of a well-known Vancouver interior designer who is planning to renting her place out for a period of time. As I worked my way through her house, I was disappointed that I had only allowed myself an hour for this shoot. I would have loved to spend more time there, shooting all the details hidden in the nooks and crannies of this rambling estate. There were two homes on the property, and I barely got through the essential shots before I had to move on to the next appointment. Not that I’m complaining. It’s good to be busy.

Shaughnessy Stunner

Another beautiful home just listed by Monique Badun and her team. This one is in Shaughnessy, and features a huge built-in wine cooler, media room, pool, gourmet kitchen, and a grand entry that will knock your socks off.

The Horsehoe Bay Way

March 11, 2011

I thought this house epitomized the Horseshoe Bay lifestyle perfectly. Huge open plan, lots of skylights to let in the western sun, cedar beams and earth tones throughout. And of course, a stunning view from just about every room in the house. If you can handle the commute (better yet, if you don’t have to commute) you will fall in love with this place. West Vancouver realtor Eric Christiansen has all the details.

Personal space

March 7, 2011

The owners of this home in Richmond’s Quilchena Green really wanted to make it their own, so they decked it out in vibrant colours, murals on the walls, and a toy train running through the kitchen. Here are a few shots of this unique home. Contact Dave Hutchinson for more information.

South West Marine Drive is one of the more prestigious addresses in Vancouver. That’s where you’ll find this impressive home, listed by Jennifer Ricci of Macdonald Realtors. It boasts over 7,000 square feet of living space, 4 fireplaces, sweeping views of the Fraser River, wine cellar, billiard room, giant elephant heads, and…. you get the idea. I love shooting home like this. The light pours into the huge south-facing windows all day long, and bounces off white walls, ceilings, and furnishings. There’s nary a dark object in the house, which makes my job so much easier.
